DocsAI is a privacy-first document scanner. Your documents stay local on your device by default. We do not run ads, we do not sell your data, and we do not mine your documents for advertising. This policy explains what information the app handles so you can scan and ask with confidence.
2. Information We Collect
Because DocsAI is designed to keep your library on your device, most of what the app knows about you never leaves your phone. The limited data involved includes:
- Account identity: If you sign in to enable cloud sync, we store an account identifier and email so your documents can sync across your devices.
- Documents & OCR text: Your scans, imported files, and the text extracted from them are stored locally on your device by default, and in the cloud only if you enable sync.
- AI queries: When you ask a question about a document, the relevant text is sent to the Gemini AI service to generate an answer.
- App preferences: Settings such as folders, share settings, and light/dark theme choice.
- Diagnostic data: If you opt in, anonymous crash logs and performance metrics that help us fix bugs. This never includes your document content.
3. How We Use Your Data
The information above is used only to make the app work and to improve it:
- Scanning, cropping, and running OCR so your documents become fully searchable.
- Answering questions about your documents through the Gemini AI assistant.
- Syncing your library across devices when you choose to sign in and enable sync.
- Diagnosing crashes and improving scanning accuracy and app stability.
4. AI Processing with Gemini
DocsAI's assistant is powered by Google's Gemini AI. When you ask a question about a document, the relevant extracted text is transmitted securely to the AI service to generate a response. This content is used to answer your request and is handled under Google's applicable terms. We do not use your document content to train our own models.
5. Cloud Sync & Sharing
Cloud sync is optional. When enabled, your documents and their extracted text are stored in the cloud so they stay up to date across your devices. When you share a document, you control whether it stays private, becomes public, or is shared with specific email addresses. You can change or revoke sharing at any time.
6. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We value your privacy and do not sell your personal information. Data may only be shared in these limited cases:
- Service providers: The Gemini AI service and cloud infrastructure that power AI answers and optional sync.
- Recipients you choose: People you explicitly share a document with.
- Compliance: When required by valid legal process or applicable law.
7. Data Protection & Security
Documents are stored locally on your device and protected by your device's own security. Any data transmitted to our servers or the AI service, such as sync content and AI queries, is encrypted in transit using TLS. While we work hard to safeguard information, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
8. Your Choices & Deletion Rights
You stay in control of your data. Within the app you can:
- Keep everything local by leaving cloud sync turned off.
- Delete individual documents or entire folders at any time.
- Revoke document shares whenever you like.
- Sign out and request deletion of any account information we hold by contacting us.
9. Children's Privacy
DocsAI is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will remove it.
